Socrates were the first to test their opposition's keeper after an attempted chip was caught by Abbie Timson.

Wednesday took the lead in the 8th minute after a couple of neat passes found Diana Garin, who smashed the ball into the top corner at the keeper's near post to give Wednesday an early lead.

Another Wednesday goal was scored 5 minutes after their first when Ellie King and Michaela Barrett played 4 passes between each other, leading to Michaela Barrett rounding the keeper and scoring.

Wednesday almost made it three in the 17th minute after a Wednesday free kick found Mike Russell at the back post as she saw her header just go wide.

Wednesday kept piling on the pressure when another was missed, as Michaela Barrett used her pace to beat the keeper to a ball played over the top, but her shot rolled across the goal and out of play.

The third goal was finally found in the 21st minute after a long shot from Diana Garin was spilt by the Socrates keeper, and Lauren Gallego scored the rebound.

Wednesday didn’t want to stop at 3-0, as Michaela Barrett pounced on a bad defensive touch, hitting the ball on the volley and just going past the post.

The chances kept on coming for Wednesday, as once again Michaela Barrett was found over the top. She passed the ball back to Chloe Rose, whose shot went just over the bar.

Diana Garin had the last chance of the half when she got onto a loose ball, drilling the ball into the near post, forcing the keeper into a save.

That was that for the first half, Wednesday showing a very dominant display, leading 3-0.

The second half started like the first; Wednesday scored a fourth after Michaela Barrett beat the Socrates keeper to a back pass, tapping the ball into the empty net.

There was a stoppage in play in the 53rd minute as Abbie Timson was forced off the pitch due to injury.

Michaela Barrett once again created a chance for herself in the 65th minute as she dribbled past 4 defenders and the keeper, but her shot was cleared off the line, preventing Wednesday from making it 5-0.

In the 78th minute, Wednesday made it 5-0 after Laura Gallego made an amazing touch and pass to Michaela Barrett, who passed the ball into the bottom corner, completing her hat-trick.

Wednesday then saw the game out, giving a 5-0 victory over Socrates.

After a wonderful overall performance from Wednesday, they are now in the final of the SHWGL shield, and they play Charnock Ridgeway women.

The POTM was given to Laura Gallego for her outstanding performance in the middle of the park.

Wednesday's next game will be on the 30th of March against Chesterfield U23.
