Sheffield Wednesday Ladies Reserves prepare for SHGWL Shield Final

Sheffield Wednesday Ladies Reserves prepare for SHGWL Shield Final

Charles Garrett26 Apr - 17:08

We spoke to some of the players ahead of this weekend's SHGWL Shield Final against Charnock Ridgeway.

After an emphatic 4-0 victory over Kiveton Park in the quarter finals, and an equally impressive 5-0 win in the semi finals over Socrates Ladies FC, Wednesday Reserves now face one last hurdle in Charnock Ridgeway, who they have already defeated twice this season.

We spoke to Reserves captain Chloe Rose about the teams performance in the cup this year: "We've done very well and played tremendously good football. We have been up for every game so far and all adapted to a new formation and took it in our stride. I believe that since this new formation we have been so much more vocal all throughout the team. This helps us play better football as we are all on the same page."

Rose also spoke about being captain: "It is an honour to lead this team out in a cup final. The girls are a wonderful bunch and so easy to get along with. It has made the whole process of being captain easier."

Midfielder Laura Gallego also commented on the teams performance this year: "We were unlucky to be in the Shield but we have done well in it to get to the final. Defensively and attacking we have been really good as we have lots of chemistry and this has grown throughout the competition."

Laura Gallego, who hails from Barcelona, spoke on her experience in English football: "Here we don't play in the middle of the park and a lot more long ball is played here in Sheffield compared to Barcelona where we play more passing football."

Diana Garin, who started the scoring in the semis, also spoke on her thoughts: "I personally really like English football because of the physicality of the game.

We also got comments from centre back Caitlin Norcliffe ahead of the final: "We have played well in both games against Charnock so hopefully we can do the same again on Sunday. The morale has been really good, the music before the game gets the team in high spirits."

"Not conceding any goals whilst being a part of the back three has been my best moment in the cup."

Finally Charlotte Harris spoke to us about the opposition: "Charnock have given good results throughout the season, some surprising ones but they aren't a threat for the way that we play. Our attack of Michaela Barrett, Monika Charles, Ellie King and Chloe Rose are so quick which helps us with scoring goals."

When asked about the new set-up, she said: "I have moved positions and am no longer in the back three. I'm on the left now but I really feel like I've adapted to the position."
