Wednesday Ladies came into this game after an impressive win over Chesterfield Women U23s and were hoping to do the same to YP.
YP took the lead within six minutes from a real goal of the season contender, as the wonderful strike from 25-yards-out found the top corner, putting Wednesday on the back foot.
Wednesday then found themselves 2-0 down after nine minutes when a corner was tapped home from close range giving Wednesday an even harder challenge.
The Owlesses started to grow into the game and earned themselves a goal back as Ellie McHugh beat two defenders and played a great ball through to Ruby Whelan, who smashed the ball past the YP keeper.
Confidence started to build within the Wednesday side as in the 25th minute they managed to equalise as Michaela Barrett chipped the ball up and Chloe Rose flicked it on and slotted home when one-on-one with the keeper.
The game wasn’t level for long as YP scored their third after their striker finished a one-on-one with the Wednesday Ladies shot-stopper, and made no mistake to slot it into the bottom right corner.
YP scored 2 more goals just before the break. A missed placed shot was caught brilliantly on the volley making it 4-2. And a goalmouth scramble led to Wednesday being 5-2 down at HT.
The second half wasn’t as lively as the first but this didn’t affect YP as they played three one touch passes ending with a good finish to put themselves 6-2 up in the 59th minute.
The impressive Wednesday substitute Monika Charles managed to get a goal back for the Owlesses after she brought the ball down and flicked past the defender and smashed the ball into the top corner making it 6-3.
Wednesday were growing in confidence and McHugh grabbed another for Wednesday as Mika Russel intercepted the ball which led to it being a through ball for the Owlesses striker, who very cheekily chipped the keeper making it 6-4.
The game ended 6-4, which was Wednesday's first defeat at home. A well done to Wednesday who in stages went toe-to-toe with an extremely impressive YP Women, who look odds on to go up this season.
Wednesday introduced new signings Diana Garin and Elise Young who gave Wednesday fans a look of what’s to come with impressive debuts.
Wednesday's next game is against division one side Brinsworth Whitehill Women FC in the Cup.
