Sheffield Wednesday Ladies Reserves conceded the first goal when the ball was played over the top to the Barnsley winger who delivered a low cross that was tapped in at the back post.
Barnsley then bagged the second, just minutes into the game after a ball was once again played over the top to the away side’s attacker who chipped the ball over the keeper.
Wednesday Ladies got a half chance midway through the first half after Michaela Barrett pounced on a defensive mistake, shooting from the edge of the box and forcing the Barnsley keeper into a save.
Unfortunately, Wednesday Ladies then conceded a third just before the break. Wednesday conceded an indirect free kick due to a back pass caught by the referee. The free kick was passed to a teammate who smashed it giving Barnsley a 3-0 lead going into half time.
Despite the game being 3-0 at half time, Wednesday Ladies had defended well and seemed to make it difficult for Barnsley.
Barnsley began to step their game up a few gears in the second stanza. The difference in quality shone through despite the effort, determination and hard-work Barnsley went on to notch six more goals in the second half, giving them a 0-9 win.
Diana Garin was named as the Player Of The Match after a very impressive display.
Despite the result, Wednesday Ladies should take a lot of positives from the game and use this for the rest of the season.
Considering it's our reserves' first season together, they deserve every bit of praise for coming up against such high-level opposition.
