Wednesday Ladies came into their game looking to build on the impressive win against Staveley Miners. The challenge could not have been any harder as they hosted Chesterfield at the SWFCCP Jubilee Sports Club. Before today they were joint top of the table and unbeaten.

Wednesday Ladies Reserves had some good chances in the first half but couldn’t find a way past the excellent Chesterfield keeper.

Michaela Barrett finally broke the deadlock in the 21st minute after she played a quick one-two with Jess Simeson at the edge of the area and finished well to the keeper's right.

The first half ended with Wednesday holding a one-goal advantage.

The second half began and both sides started to create more chances. In the 67th minute Barrett almost doubled Wednesday’s lead after she took it round the goalkeeper but saw her shot blocked on the line by the Chesterfield defender.

Chesterfield managed to equalise in the 70th minute of the game after a misjudged bounce landed at the away side’s attacker’s feet, who made no mistake and levelled the score.

Wednesday were put under a lot of pressure after conceding, only last ditch tackles and some great keeping from Abbie Timson kept Wednesday level.

In the 81st minute of the game Barrett found herself through on goal only to be pulled down by the Chesterfield defender. Mika Russell put Wednesday back in front after smashing home a superb 20 yard strike from the resulting free kick.

Wednesday managed to hold onto the 2-1 lead under some immense pressure, and the team held firm, giving Chesterfield their first defeat of the season.

Wednesday have managed to get back to back wins for the first time this season and have maintained their unbeaten run at home after getting 10 points from a possible 12.

This was again a great performance and 3 points to be proud of for Wednesday.
