Sheffield Wednesday Ladies Reserves continue good home form after beating Barnsley Ladies Development 3-2 at the SWFCCP Jubilee Sports Club

In the first minute it was Barnsley who took the lead from a corner. The corner was whipped in and ended up finding the back of the net after it came off a Wednesday Ladies player.

Not long after, the Owlesses began to create their own chances as Barnsley relied on their keeper to make a double save after Chloe Rose and Ruby Whelan saw their shots saved.

Wednesday then came close again to equalising after Michaela Barrett saw her shot hit the post after Monika Charles played a through ball into the 18-yard box.

With 32 minutes on the clock, Wednesday Ladies found their equaliser when Barrett flicked the ball back to Charles, who smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

Wednesday Ladies then came close to taking the lead after Rose crossed the ball, leading to a deflection that was cleared well by the Barnsley defender, keeping the scores level.

Another chance fell Wednesday's way after Diana Garin won the ball back just inside her own half. She then beat two players and saw her shoot from the edge of the box heading for the top corner, but was denied by an excellent save by the Barnsley GK.

Both sides went into half-time with the score at 1-1.

Just like the first half, Wednesday Ladies conceded within the first minute. The ball was crossed into the box and the Barnsley striker miss-hit her first shot but scored with the follow-up attempt.

The next opportunity went to the away side as they had a shot from a corner that was saved by Abbie Timson to keep Wednesday in the game at 2-1.

In the 66th minute, Charles got her second goal of the game after flicking the ball round the Barnsley defender and coolly slotting the ball under the on coming keeper.

The Barnsley keeper was forced into action again shortly after when Rose pounced on a defensive mistake and fired the ball towards the far corner. Only a fingertip save kept the ball out of the net and the scores remained level.

Wednesday were really pushing for a winner as Barrett got on the end of a Rose’s cross which ended going over the bar.

Late on in the game in the 85th minute, Barnsley did give Wednesday a scare after they hit the post after some good work and Timson was quick to collect the ball.

It was Wednesday that found the winner in the 88th minute. Rose dribbled the ball brilliantly past three Barnsley defenders and hit a magnificent shot from the edge of the box hit the post but Barrett followed up on the rebound scoring her 15th goal of the season giving Wednesday Ladies Reserves the lead for the first time in the game.

Barnsley tried to find an equaliser but time was not on their side and Wednesday Ladies Reserves held onto all three points.

Chloe Rose was given Player Of The Match after her terrific performance against Barnsley.

Wednesday Ladies Reserves next game is away against Edenthorpe JFC Ladies on the 2nd February.
