The Owlesses recorded an emphatic 8-3 win in the NERWFL against Kiveton Park.

After derby defeat last time out, coaches Andy Gilligan, Kieron Lee, Laurie Millington were joined in the dug out by a new addition to the coaching team, Jack Duty. They opted to make three changes to the side, with Molly Crossland returning to fill the defensive midfielder role, Romy Lee back at centre-back, and the prolific Nicole Shaw back at striker. This saw Jess Birtles and Maisie Gilligan drop to the bench.

Kiveton were the team to break the deadlock in the 5th minute, but Wednesday stayed resilient and Amy Broomhead equalized with a right footed strike from the outside of the box, neatly slotted into the bottom left corner, after great hold up play and assist from the returning Nicole Shaw.

Just two minutes later, the floodgates had seemingly opened in Kiveton's backline, as Abbie Hastie got herself on the scoresheet giving Wednesday the lead, after an excellent cross from Harriet Lloyd. From creator to goalscorer, Lloyd added to Wednesdays lead, with a spectacular first-timed shot into the bottom corner after a costly mistake from the goalkeeper.

Heading into half-time, Kiveton managed to pull one back, leaving it 3-2 at the break.

The second half began, and Wednesday coaches decided for some second half changes, with reserve players Mika Russell and Chloe Rose coming on for first-half goalscorer's Harriet Lloyd and Amy Broomhead. Mika Russell scored an 8 minute brace to make the game 5-2, and seemingly secure all three valuable points for Wednesday.

The reserve duo combined extremely well in the 2nd half, with Russell having a storming run down the left wing, excellently holding off the Kiveton full back, and drawing out a superb save from the goalkeeper, who fortunately parried it straight to the feet of Rose, who confidently rifled it into the net, making it 6-2 to the Owlesses.

Michaela Barrett rounded off the game with her 8 minute brace, exactly the same as her reserve teammate. Her first goal came from a perfectly weighted ball over the top, where she used her pace to run onto it and get ahead of the defender, before beating the keeper with a powerful strike in the roof of the net. Her second goal came after sloppy midfield play from Kiveton, needlessly giving the ball away, and allowing Barrett to run through on goal, firmly dispatching in the bottom left corner, a favourite spot for Wednesday today.

Kiveton managed to grab a consolation goal in the dying minutes of the game through Sara Tyler twisting and turning, and pulling off an extraordinary finish into the top-right hand corner, nothing that goalkeeper Skye Webster could've done about it.

The game finished 8-3 at Jubilee Sports and Social Club and what a result it is for Wednesday, getting back to winning ways, and now also having a legitimate chance at securing 6th place this year in the NERWFL.

Credit to all players today, certainly that second-half performance, which was stellar all round. A special mention for the reserves today, Mika, Chloe and Michaela, really stepping up when it mattered, scoring all of Wednesday's goals in that second-half, a real positive for the future.

This result moves the Owlesses up into 7th place, ahead of Lower Hopton Ladies, only on goal difference, ahead of the final game of the season against Leeds Modernians next week. They lie just one point behind Altofts, with it all to play for.

Starting XI: Webster; Ayrton, Lee, Yeardley, Vessey; Stancill, Crossland, Hastie, Lloyd; Broomhead, Shaw. Subs: Barrett, Birtles, Gilligan, Rose, Russell.
