Junior round up as cup action take centre-stage

Junior round up as cup action take centre-stage

Lewis Railton20 Jan - 15:00

Check out how our junior sides fared this weekend.

Our U10s displayed some incredible first touch football against Nether Green in a league clash. They did impeccably well to limit the opposition to very few opportunities on goal for the entire match. The side have shown several signs of improvement recently, and keep getting stronger every week. Whilst Wednesday were top notch with their shooting, as well as their ability to create great chances, the Nether Green goalkeeper did superbly well at times.

Elsewhere, our U12 side managed a brilliant win in an eight-goal thriller in the 2nd round of the SHWGL Cup. The 5-3 victory came courtesy of a brilliantly-taken hat-trick by Alysia, whilst Sophia also bagged a brace to ensure the victory for Wednesday. It was a tightly-fought contest in what were fairly cold and bitter conditions, but the Owlesses remained strong and put in a big battling team effort.

Our U13’s Blue travelled once again to our rivals, Millmoor Juniors FC, showcasing their technical footballing ability. Despite Millmoor’s physical play and reliance on their long ball technique, Wednesday dominated the play with skill, teamwork and determination.

Poppy, the Player of the Match, dazzled with her work rate, and confidence on the ball opening many opportunities, while Alex put in an amazing shift, making crucial interceptions and driving the team forward. Their efforts kept the game tight and exciting.

Although Millmoor scored first and clinched a second goal in the final moments, the 2-0 result didn't reflect the outstanding performance of our girls. The entire team showed incredible resilience and everyone one of them should be proud of their efforts and performance.

2025 gets off to a fantastic start for our U13’s White, who pulled off a 5-0 cup win against Swinton. It was a very quiet first half while the girls blew off the cobwebs and got the feel for a very tricky pitch, after the bad weather. However, fitness and perseverance prevailed and the second half saw us dominate. A couple of knocks meant we had to change things up a bit but this didn’t phase the girls who continued to work hard throughout. Fullbacks Anny and Poppy were tremendous today, with Poppy finding the back of the net twice and earning herself the Player Of The Match accolade.

All the girls were fantastic today but I would like to give a special mention to Amelia C who is currently sidelined due to injury but continues to attend matches and training to support the others and cheer them on.

The U14’s suffered a heavy defeat in cup against handsworth 10-0, but they will come back better next time.

Our U16’s were back in action after a four week hiatus. The side created plenty of chances early in the game but failed to get great connection on our shots, and the more the game went on at 0-0, the more Sheffield FC grew in confidence, and they started to get control in midfield, and they were clinical with their chances, leading to them losing out 2-0.
