Rachel Norsworthy has become a familiar face upfront for Wednesday this season. We found out about her career so far, toughest moments and her pets!

Last Sunday, Sheffield Wednesday Ladies completed a stunning comeback. 3-0 down at Kiveton Park, they found themselves in a tough situation. But in the absence of Amy Broomhead, up-stepped attacker Rachel Norsworthy. The Wednesday striker produced an excellent poachers finish to ignite the comeback.

Wednesday would go on to complete the comeback with Norsworthy’s goal proving to be crucial.

Norsworthy hasn’t had the most typical route in football, starting to learn at a young age she took a 4 year break between the ages 14 and 18 before picking up her boots again at Sunderland University.

During her time there she proved herself at tournaments in Croatia and Italy which inspired her to continue playing when she returned home.

Following her return home from Sunderland she joined Worsbrough Bridge AFC and played there for four seasons. She reflected on her time there as she said: “I met so many great people playing for them, and they’re still my best mates to this day.”

After this she played for West End Terriers in the third division where they narrowly missed out on promotion. After they folded at the end of the 22/23 season she then joined Wednesday.

When asked about settling in at Wednesday, she said: “I’ve really enjoyed getting to know all the girls at the club, we have a really good group this season and it’s been nice to be a part of growing that bond both on and off the pitch.

“Hopefully we can work together to secure regional football again next season.”

This year was a big step up for Norsworthy, she said: “For me, my toughests moments in football are a result of me being my worst critic. I struggle when I’m not playing as well as I’d like or as well as I know I can.

“It’s something that I’ve had to adapt to at Wednesday, especially playing in a higher league this year against stronger opponents.”

Away from football, Norsworthy is an English teacher in Barnsley, she said: “I get a lot of stick from the students about playing for Wednesday, but I think they secretly like it.”

She added, “My partner and I have 2 cats, the youngest is called Ozzie after Ozzie the Owl.”

The Wednesday Ladies winger will be in action this Sunday at the Jubilee Sports and Social Club for a 3pm kick-off. Entry is FREE and we hope to see as many of you there as possible showing your support!
