Cup final success and more in this week's junior round-up

Alana Breslin24 Mar - 12:22

Here is our junior round-up from the weekend.

Firstly, our U9s played their final game of the season, starting the day with a party in the dressing room. Finishing off the season with copious amounts of teamwork and spirit, with Isla getting player of the match.

The U11s had a fantastic game. Putting into practice a lot of the hard work and training they did midweek, which became evident on the pitch. Holly scored a fantastic long-range goal. As well as Freya, who was a ruthless defender in front of the goal. Our goalkeeper Macie wasn’t needed much but was called into action at the end of the game, producing two excellent saves.

The U12s took time to settle into the game; however, once they found their feet, they dominated the pitch. In their penultimate league match, the owls were captained by Nacy, who showed true leadership throughout the game. Although the game was difficult at first, the team persevered, getting control of the ball midfield and finishing the first half 3-0 up. With Sophia scoring an astounding three goals and Alysia finalising the score with a fourth.

The U13s showed exceptional commitment and relentless tenacity in a tightly fought cup final against Houghton Main. Despite a tough start, the Owlesses grew in confidence as the game progressed. Determined to win back possession, with a focus on technical attacking, the team shone on the pitch.

Midway through the first half, Issabelle scored a fantastic goal, swiftly finding the bottom corner to equalise and lift team spirits. The second half saw Wednesday dominate large proportions of the game, with their persistence and teamwork on full display. Denis's outstanding defensive work earned her player of the match. Epitomising the team's grit and refusal to give up.

A late counterattack from Houghton Main sealed a 2-1 victory for our opponents. The Owlesses spirited performance and ability to adapt under pressure are commendable. The effort combined with sheer determination throughout the match is a testament to their hard work and dedication. A proud performance from the entire squad.

Showing great team spirit, the U14s came out on top. It was a tough game, as the girls struggled slightly in the first half, rushing ball possessions and hence snatching at goal-scoring opportunities. The girls came into the second half determined. Pheobe provided the team with numerous great corners, and Ava converted one of them straight into a volley. Overall, SWWFC showed incredible teamwork, finishing the game off with a fantastic strike to make a 2-0 clean sheet for Jen in goal.

U15s were brilliant after coming off a few great performances without walking away with the points. The girls showed up today with a point to prove. Starting early and battling hard. The team showed great character, coming back from two setbacks with two brilliant goals against the team who are second in the league. The girls deserved a win today and will come back stronger than ever next week.

A strong performance from the U18s, who won away at Scawthorpe, securing their place in the finals. With two astounding goals from Nicole A and Trev. With Lois the receiving player of the match for another commanding performance in goal. The team combined skill, determination and technique to secure their place in the final. The team now head back into league action, hoping to finish the season strongly.

This week the U16s participated in the Cup Final, always a tough game as two teams battle it out for the main prize. The team started fast and had a few early chances but couldn’t capitalise on them. We were then hit with a sucker punch to concede the goal against the run of play, a good finish for the Chesterfield forward. The girls persevered and quickly turned it around with two quick-fire goals from Georgia and Evie. The score being 2-1 at half-time settled the teams’ nerves, conquering the second half with confidence and fearlessness. An incredible goal scored by Alice brought the score up to 3-1. Bringing home the cup with victory.
